Route 56: Bus Stop Announcements

The MATA bus stop announcements are aligned with the "time points" on the schedule. When you look at a printed MATA schedule, you can estimate when the bus will be at your stop by looking at the nearest time point. If the bus is scheduled to be at Madison and McLean at 8:02 AM and your stop is a couple blocks away, you can estimate that the bus should arrive at the earliest between 8:02 and 8:04.

The time points are not the only requirement for the bus to announce. The bus must also announce crossing routes, major intersections, landmarks and stops that patrons request. The regular time points are helpful, but below is a sample of the announcements that one bus should be making in addition to the time points.

• Crossing routes: 31, 42 and 36
• Landmarks: Court Square, AutoZone Park and Health Sciences Park
• Streets: Bellevue, Danny Thomas, I 40 and Poplar

•     Crossing routes: 34, 34L, 7, 36, 57, 7, 17, 35
•     Landmarks: Methodist University Hospital and Glenview Park and Community Center
•     Streets: Southern, South Parkway and Park

Between time points 3 and 4:

•     Crossing routes: 57, 2, 32, 9, 37, 21

Between time points 4 and 5:

•     Crossing routes: 7 and 36
•     Streets: Prescott and Sharpe
•     Landmarks: Cherokee Elementary School
