Save the Date! Carrying out the Promise of Olmstead
On Friday, September 11, 2015 from 9:00-2:00 PM the Memphis Center for Independent Living will host our annual Transition to Community Life training. Carrying out the Promise of Olmstead will be the theme of this year’s workshop. The purpose of the workshop is to improve the transition process for individuals moving from institutional settings such as nursing homes, group homes, etc. as well as assisting individuals to remain in the community. It brings together advocates, social workers, care coordinators, and other stakeholders involved in transitioning. The 1999 Olmstead Supreme Court decision ensures individuals with disabilities the right to receive services in the least restrictive environment and it is the mission of our program to keep that promise to our community.
For many individuals the Choices program is a vital component to a successful transition. Choices provides in-home supports they will need once they transition as well as the needed funds through the use of a $2000.00 transition allowance. Recent rule changes by Tenncare, constant changes on the clinical side, and what tools care coordinators have would be great information for everyone to know. In order to ensure that our training is as beneficial as possible to our attendees, we’d like to invite a member from your organization to attend.
